I'm an artist from Melbourne. My paintings seek to find meaning, mood, narrative and psychological worlds that emerge out of interpreting endless changing possibilities. I investigate vital forces surrounding direct real experience and our relationship with the landscape of now. By observation and memory the paintings arrive in a liminal space between the body, the internal and the external in relation to the human experience via the unconscious and conscious processes. The paintings for me are ultimately dealing with feeling and relationships with space. I return to these known places via painting whilst simultaneously emerging out of that place into something unknown. It’s a psychological deep dive into the familiar and unfamiliar. These locked properties that cannot exist without the other counterpart let the paintings inhabit the liminal space between them. A kind of metaphorical transportation of space and time. They are something similar to characters on a stage within the frame, that contain an open ended conversation that has no room for ideology. This I have thought to be the archetypes behind the elements. In another vein, they’re vibrant contours of colour that suggest tensions and instability with emotions which harks back to expressionism - the angst of the current, which is quite nerve racking in a sense.

This is not acting out emotions alone but a way of working them through by connecting to the sensitivity of the environment I encounter - a process of digestion and renewal.
